"Customers won't buy from merchants they don't trust," said Thomas Harpointner, who is the CEO of AIS Media and works as an e-commerce consultant. "Good prices, prompt shipping, flexible return policies and excellent customer service is vital to gaining and keeping consumer confidence."
Women are driving Web shopping increases upward, Harpointner added, because the point-and-click method suits their needs for greater convenience, speed and savings.
Surprising some is an increasing demographic of cyber shoppers are seniors.
"Senior citizens, while they may be slower to adopt new technologies, are the fastest-growing age group of online shoppers," Harpointner said. "And as all people, they're creatures of habit. If they have a great experience with an online retailer, they'll likely return. However, a bad experience will likely cost that store a long-term, valuable customer.”
